... and we line up in our hundreds of thousands to be ensnared into the madness that is Big Brother.
We will no doubt complain about being bored by the housemates, mad and angry at them, shocked by some of the more bizzare behaviour, but still, many of us will watch and wait and secretly hope for the madness to begin. Which of course it will. Whatever we think, and no matter how much we deny such an addiction, many of us will be glued to the BB house for the next 13 weeks.
In the early days of Big Brother I only started watching for the last 2 weeks, just to get a feel for the people and decide who I wanted to win. Then slowly I began watching earlier each year and for the past 2 have watched it from the outset. Crazy, some people will say but hey, I'm addicted!
Having watched the 2 days of audition cuts this week I can say that none of those filmed strike me as good housemates. But isn't that the way with BB? You dislike people, then you might change to like them, then you might feel sorry for them, and then go back to disliking them. Very few manage to endear themselves to the public on a long term basis and that I suppose is down to the fact that many who enter the BB house do so only for possible fame and their neediness embarrases us. Not only that, they have to cope with the tall poppy syndrome. Someone is nice, gets to be a little successful and then of course they must be cut down. Preferably in the cruelest way possible. Which is of course very unfair. But the housemates are warned about this scenario and if they weren't so blinded by the need for fame they might actually consider this aspect.
Would I enter the house? Well, maybe just to see if I could stick the course. But I know I would never subject myself to the 'cattle market' type of picking and chosing hms. Plus, I really can't see how I could give up many weeks of my life to sit in a little house with total strangers being filmed 24/7, so perhaps not. But there are many thousands who have done, and good luck to them in what they achieve or have achieved.
Their fame is hard won and transient and must be so painful to let go of when the cameras no longer bother with them. And this year's batch are now set up and in place for our derision, admiration, love, hate, whatever.
Lambs to the slaughter ...
